2021: A Year of Giving for Sevenstep Employees

Thanks to Sevenstep Cares, Sevenstep employees donated both time and money to numerous charitable campaigns throughout 2021, benefiting a wide variety of causes and organizations. The Sevenstep Cares Committee is comprised of Sevenstep employees who volunteer their time to design initiatives that will touch the lives of individuals in the communities where our employees live and work and causes that employees care about deeply. Sevenstep Cares welcomes employee suggestions throughout the year and efforts to choose a wide variety based on those recommendations. This culture of care and contribution is a core value at Sevenstep, and Sevenstep Cares is just one way that value manifests itself. Here are some of the initiatives Sevenstep Cares championed in 2021:

In April, employees raised awareness of mitochondrial disease by sharing pictures of themselves being active using #moveformito and #mitoaction hashtags and donated directly to the Move for MITO fund. This campaign benefitted “The Matthew Harty Camper Fund,” allowing children with mitochondrial disease to attend summer camp and providing scholarships for high school and college students battling mitochondrial disease.

In May, we recognized Mental Health Awareness Month with a Virtual Pet Parade that raised money for Mental Health America and Mind UK. We also observed Nurses Week and Armed Forces Day through individual donations to NHS Charities Together (UK), the American Nurses Foundation and Operation Gratitude. Employees also participated in “Red Nose Day,” a campaign to end child poverty by funding programs that keep children safe, healthy, educated and empowered.

As families across the country prepared to go back to school in August, Sevenstep employees participated in the Back-to-School Backpack Drive, raising money to help purchase school supplies for The Educator’s Alliance of Charles Street AME and the communities it serves in Massachusetts.

September found employees writing letters to military, veterans, and first responders as part of Operation Gratitude.

October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Across the globe, Sevenstep employees enthusiastically participated in “On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink, “the Breast Cancer Research fundraising event for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Sevenstep held a lively virtual photoshoot to capture the occasion. Many employees also took part in 5k Walk/Runs for breast cancer, wearing pink and raising more money for this worthy cause.

In December, we ended the year commemorating the Season of Giving by donating food, toiletries, clothes to organizations across the country. Individual employees made donations to local organizations such as The New Brunswick Lions Club in New Jersey, Animal Control and The Macomb County warming center in Michigan, Metro Caring (Denver) and Denver Dream Center in Colorado, Tufts and Boston Medical Center Children’s Hospitals in Massachusetts and numerous food pantries along the Connecticut shoreline.

Sevenstep employees are proud of the myriad of initiatives Sevenstep Cares organized in 2021. This group of passionate and engaged volunteers gathers once again this month to plan more charitable activities and campaigns for 2022 so that our employees can help people in need and, in doing so, continue to make Sevenstep a place where caring and contributing matter.
